Restaurant Val de Vienne is open – est ouvert

We had an excellent lunch at the Val de Vienne in Sazilly today with Jean-Martin Dutour of Baudry-Dutour. Both their 2006 Clos des Marroniers and the 2005 Coteaux des Chenanceaux were showing well with the richly fruited and long 2005 not yet fully ready – it needs at least another two or three years to start showing its best. The 2005 ought to keep for 20 years or more.

However despite the excellent food, we were the only ones having lunch. Unfortunately Florence et Jean-Marie Gervais, who run this very good restaurant, are currently having a tough time because of major works at Tavant, which has closed the road (D760) that runs past their restaurant. During the day there is une deviation around the village of Tavant but from 5.30pm until 8am the following day through Tayant is open as normal. It is also open from 5.30pm Friday evening to Monday morning. The work in Tavant has already been going on a month and is apparently due to continue until 23rd April. Florence Gervais explained that many people think that the road is closed all the time, which of course is not the case.

If you haven't tried the Val de Vienne it is certainly recommended – excellent food and a good list of Chinon.
